Lease Electric

End of Contract

If your contract is shortly coming to an end and there are a few things that you need to know so that you can prepare for the collection of you car or LCV.

The next steps at the end of your contract will depends on which finance type your agreement is based on. Click here to visit our finance options, contact your funder to confirm, or speak to our team for support and guidance.

We suggest that you start preparing for your EV to be collected at least 10-12 weeks before the end date. This will allow you time to assess the vehicle and to make good any damage or issues which fall outside of the finance company’s acceptable fair wear and tear guide, arrange any mechanical repairs, service and/or MOT, locate all items that came with the vehicle such as all keys, charging cables and handbooks as well as time to remove your private number plate if you have one.

Fair Wear and Tear

Under the terms and conditions of your finance agreement, you have an obligation to look after the vehicle and to return it in a condition which is fair for its age and mileage. When your vehicle is returned to the funder, it is expected to be in a reasonable condition. What is deemed 'reasonable' is defined in the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association's (often refered to as the BVRLA) Fear Wear and Tear Guidelines.

The collection agent will inspect your vehicle, provide you with a collection note before taking your vehicle away. Your vehicle may be re-inspected when it arrives at the collection centre.

It is suggested that you take video footage or photos of the exterior and interior in case there is a dispute.

The below guides you examples of what the BVRLA’s view of industry standard is for fair wear and tear. However, finance companies’ policies may differ so you should request a copy of the finance company’s Fair Wear and Tear Guide and use this when assessing the condition of your vehicle.

Excess Mileage

If you have exceeded your total contrat mileage - you will be charged an excess mileage fee by the finance company. You will find the pence per mile rate detailed in your finance agreement.

Private number plates

Private number plates, also known as personalised plates, are number plates that are bought based on the specific characters they contain. If you have a cherised plate on your vehicle, you should start the removal process at least six weeks before the end of your contract. You will be required to pay a charge for the removal of the number plate and the retention or transfer to a new vehicle.

Collection Requirements

It is suggested that you take video footage or photos of the exterior and interior, before returning your vehicle. When you return a vehicle, you must ensure:

  • The vehicle is in a safe and roadworthy condition.
  • The vehicle has a valid MOT (if applicable).
  • The vehicle has been serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's guidelines and service schedule.
  • The service book and handbook must be in the vehicle. If the service history is held electronically by the manufacturer, you must obtain a print out from your local dealer and attach copies of the bills to evidence that the vehicle has been properly maintained.
  • All keys are present.
  • The vehicle is in a relatively clean condition, to allow for a proper assesment.
  • All personal possesions have been removed.
